The Summer of Yin

A Journey from Light to Balance

June 28 - August 23

Five Sundays. One seasonal passage. A contemplative arc through the fullness of summer and into the quiet wisdom of its turning.

This specialty Yin Yoga series moves with the rhythm of the season, weaving yoga philosophy, lunar energy, and the body's own listening into a journey that unfolds from late June through late August. Each class stands beautifully on its own, yet together they form something larger — a guided passage that walks you from outer light, through ethical inquiry and inner care, into intention, and finally into equilibrium.

We begin on June 28th with Summer Solstice Yin: Abiding in the Light, honoring the longest day of the year. A practice of radiance, fire, and heart-opening spaciousness, inviting you to soften into the peak of summer's fullness rather than chase it.

On July 12th, we turn to Yin Reflections: The Yamas, exploring yoga's outer ethics — non-harming, truth, ease, integrity — through long-held, supported postures that let these teachings be felt in the body, not only understood as ideas.

July 26th brings Yin Reflections: The Niyamas, the natural deepening inward. Where the Yamas shape how we meet the world, the Niyamas shape how we meet ourselves — with steadiness, contentment, and quiet self-reflection.

On August 8th, the New Moon arrives with Sankalpa New Moon Yin: Intention Setting — a soft, grounding practice that creates space for a heart-felt intention to emerge from stillness rather than striving. The New Moon is the dark counterpart to the Solstice, fertile ground where seeds take root.

We close on August 23rd with Gunas Yin: Finding Balance Within, exploring the three qualities of energy — steadiness, activity, and clarity — and arriving at a felt understanding of when to rest, when to engage, and when to soften. Summer has done its work; we end in equilibrium.

Light → Ethics → Inner Care → Intention → Balance.

Expect long-held, supported postures, ample props, and quiet space to listen inwardly. Each class is taught with care and an unhurried pace, inviting you to soften striving and arrive more fully in your body, breath, and the season itself. All levels welcome; no prior Yin experience necessary.

Summer Solstice Yin: Abiding in the Light

A slow, meditative practice honoring the longest day of the year — a time of fullness, warmth, and radiance. We soften into stillness and explore gentle, long-held postures that nourish the heart, hips, and spine, grounded in the fire element and supporting the Heart and Small Intestine meridians. Expect supportive shapes, mindful breathing, and ample time to rest as we balance the peak of light with deep presence.

Yin Reflections: The Yamas

A contemplative practice that explores yoga's foundational ethics through the body, breath, and stillness. Rather than approaching the Yamas as concepts alone, we experience them somatically — practicing non-harming through gentleness, truth through honest sensation, non-grasping through ease, and wise use of energy through supported, long-held postures. Expect long holds focused on hips, spine, heart, and connective tissue, with generous props and quiet space to listen inwardly, soften striving, and cultivate integrity and care that extends well beyond the mat.

Yin Reflections: The Niyamas

A slow, nourishing, and introspective practice exploring yoga's observances of self-relationship. Rather than approaching the Niyamas as ideals to perfect, we reflect on them in the body — showing up with steadiness, practicing contentment, offering ourselves care, and allowing ease and self-reflection to arise naturally. Expect long-held, supported postures that gently open the hips, spine, and heart, along with moments of stillness and rest. This is an invitation to turn inward, listen deeply, and reconnect with the quiet rituals that sustain us.

Sankalpa New Moon Yin: Intention Setting

A quiet, grounding practice aligned with the energy of the New Moon — a time for beginnings, reflection, and the intentional planting of seeds. Through long-held, supported postures and gentle breath awareness, we create space to slow down, listen inwardly, and allow a sankalpa, or heart-felt intention, to arise naturally. Rather than striving or fixing, this practice emphasizes receptivity, rest, and clarity, inviting intention to emerge from stillness rather than effort. Expect a soothing, floor-based practice focused on hips, spine, and nervous system regulation, closing in deep rest.

Gunas Yin: Finding Balance Within

A slow, floor-based practice exploring the three Gunas — the natural qualities of energy present in all things: steadiness (tamas), activity (rajas), and clarity (sattva). Through long-held, supported postures, we gently observe these qualities as they arise in the body, breath, and mind. Rather than trying to change or fix our experience, this practice invites awareness, balance, and ease — learning when to rest, when to engage, and when to soften into clarity. Expect a calming, introspective practice focused on hips, spine, and nervous system regulation, finishing in deep rest.

Who Is This Series For

This series is for anyone longing to slow down — to step out of the pace of summer's fullness and into a quieter, more contemplative rhythm. You don't need prior Yin experience, philosophical background, or any particular level of flexibility. You only need a willingness to be still, to listen, and to let the season meet you in the body.

  • This series may especially resonate if you are:
  • Drawn to practices that pair movement with meaning, and curious how yoga's deeper teachings — the Yamas, Niyamas, Gunas, and Sankalpa — can be felt rather than only studied.
  • Navigating a season of transition, healing, or self-reflection, and seeking a steady container to return to across the summer.
  • Looking for nervous system regulation, rest, and a chance to soften the striving that so often runs underneath daily life.
  • Curious about lunar and seasonal rhythms, and interested in how the Solstice and New Moon can shape an inner practice.
  • Already in love with Yin and wanting to deepen — or entirely new to it and ready to begin somewhere gentle.

Whether you walk the full arc or join for a single class, you'll be met with care, supportive props, and ample time to rest. Come exactly as you are.
